Inside the Nantucket County Probate & Family Court
The Nantucket division of the Probate and Family Court is located at 16 Broad St., Nantucket.
There is limited metered-parking around the court building; however, public transportation is available.
The Nantucket Probate and Family Court serves the residents of Nantucket, along with nearby islands of Tuckermuck and Musket. Given its location 30 miles south of Cape Cod, it is accessible only by boat or by plane. With 10,172 permanent residents, it’s the least populous county in Massachusetts, though the population swells to about 50,000 each summer with tourists and seasonal residents.
The Honorable Randy J. Kaplan is the First Justice and only justice of the court. Since the court only hears 300 to 400 cases a year, scheduling is sporadic. Litigants and their attorneys are advised to keep in contact with the court for up-to-date scheduling of motion sessions and trial dates. Be careful if you’re walking and looking for the court. Many have commented it looks like a house.
